The Journal of a Spiritual Seeker, Physical Pain and Distractions
Hello Seekers,
Recognizing energetic nuance has been a huge part of the lessons I’ve been learning through my communication with the Light and my guides over the last few years. And it continues to be a fine-tuning process for me in all that I do. Looking back to messages on pain and suffering helps me recognize the ways these nuances have presented in my daily life.
Physical pain has been a part of my everyday existence for as long as I can remember. It didn't even occur to me that this would be abnormal until a massage therapist once, trying to coach me on using my mind to heal, said, “Think back to a day when you weren’t in pain. What did that feel like?” And I looked at him like, “what are you even talking about?” I don’t remember if there ever was a day when I wasn’t in some kind of physical pain, even in childhood. So when I talk about pain, it’s with an intimacy that I have realized a lot of people couldn’t imagine. For me, it’s just life. I don’t feel sorry for myself (much!) or dwell on it (often!), it’s just something to work around the same way EVERYONE has SOMETHING to work around. And these somethings are our greatest teachers.
To experience suffering, physically, and not attach to it has been a lifetime tightrope walking act. And paying attention to the nuance is how we stay balanced on that tightrope without pitching off to one side or the other. I remember a time when I was a cocktail waitress at a bar in Los Angeles and I had to walk to work in such pain that I sobbed the whole way there. And then I worked a 10-hour shift because it was what I had to do to survive. I had to let myself feel the sorrow of what I was experiencing, and then I had to let it go and do my job.
Being mindful of every nuance we experience is essential as we navigate all the shifts and changes taking place around us during these unprecedented times. Being able to experience the sorrow, and then shift to be present in our lives is the tightrope act. To suffer without attaching to our suffering. To witness the suffering of others without attaching to it either is also necessary if we want to continue to exist in this world in ways that will help bring more healing through.
My physical pain and my emotional suffering have made me more able to recognize the humanity in others and allowed me to be more compassionate and more able to love fully. For those things, I am grateful, and gratitude sets us free from the attachments.
How has your suffering changed you? Can you find a place in your heart of gratitude for what you’ve learned?
Sending so many blessings,
Jodie

Messages from the Light, Oct. 28, 2017
On Pain: Physical pain is just a part of this existence for you right now. It’s a forge, the fires of which are forming an energetic structure for your growth and evolution. Embrace the pain, without attachment. Be grateful for it, for it is a grounding force right now. Accept its limiting aspects as well as its expansive potential.
Your physical body is not everything. It is a part of you — but just a part. There are many other aspects to explore as a part of your growth.
So, acknowledge the pain, be grateful for it, without attaching to it. And continue to work on these other aspects being presented to you now.
On distractions: You are just beginning to understand how this process will manifest in 3-D. Allow it to flow, one step at a time. Take comfort in the path, the journey and the exploration of it all. Don’t focus on outcomes, but know that this is a healing process that can and will help you help others.
… A vacuum was running nearby while I was writing and the sound was distracting …
Distractions are good practice. You need to be able to stay open to the flow and be impervious to outside influences in 3-D. Breathe in and allow yourself to stay in the flow. Be grateful for these experiences, for they are helping you with focus. Do not allow yourself to be distracted or pulled into lower frequencies of annoyance. Rise up and above these frequencies, back up into the place of flow.
“It’s very distracting,” is an excuse. What isn’t distracting? If you give it berth, any and everything can be a distraction. You are being trained for laser focus. Be grateful for this opportunity.

Exercise: Begin each exercise by grounding and protecting. For more information on how, see this post.
These Days … I feel like I’m constantly referencing the unusual times we’re living in. But really, these days there are so many opportunities everywhere to learn about pain and distractions. And often the two go hand-in-hand. Something is painful, and we get distracted and pulled out of our grounding so we don’t have to experience as much of the pain. I encourage you to spend some time over the next several days taking notes on the circumstances when you find yourself being distracted. As soon as you noticed you’ve become distracted, come back to your grounding and then see if you can trace the energy back to where you were. If you can, jot down what you were thinking about or experiencing when you became distracted. Are there any common threads?
Another exercise you can employ here is to set aside time to let your mind wander, but continue to pay attention to where it wanders and what journeys it takes you on. As you bring this mindfulness into your awareness, what do you notice yourself thinking about most during these spaces and times when you let your mind wander?

A brief note: This journal and its exercises are simply a means to help you find your own flow. There is no pressure to follow them exactly or read each and every one. It does not need to be read in order either, so if you miss one, don’t feel like you’ve failed or fallen behind. These messages are here to hold space for you as you discover and evolve within your spiritual practice.
This is the first volume of The Journal of the Spiritual Seeker, and I’m presenting it here on The Devic Connection website, serialized over the last 10 weeks of 2020, with weekly roundups via email (you can sign up in the box at the bottom of this page if you’d like to receive these.) If you’ve just arrived here and would like to start from the beginning, here’s the link to the first post.
